ABOUT
MY Q (b.1981) is an artist who excels in both music and art, demonstrating his unique artistry through observation, and visualization of emotionality from a meta-perspective. With emotionality at the center of his artistic practice, MY Q investigates the interaction between his unconscious emotions and the external world, then reflecting the insights gained from these processes to expand his worldview.
MY Q practices the belief that consistent, dedicated efforts can influence the symbolic ‘tomorrow,’ the future. He commits to a disciplined studio schedule from 9 AM to 5 PM, five days a week, focusing on his deep inner emotions, or ‘meta-emotions.’ During this process, his deep-seated emotions—hidden behind the pursuit of happiness, challenges, desires for conquest, and childhood memories—come forth. MY Q believes that looking back, acknowledging, and facing uncomfortable and dark moments are crucial actions that influence and change the direction of his future. Healing takes place by revisiting these deep-seated meta-emotions and transferring them onto the canvas over a long period. Once the canvas is filled, MY Q opens the door to tomorrow and ‘returns.’ The process of carefully observing the change of emotions within the flow of time—connecting the past, present, and future—is the artist’s action for tomorrow, his repeated practice, and a self-healing procedure. Valuing the process of creation over the result, MY Q believes in the beauty and depth of his disciplined practice. Upon completing a work, the artist prepares for a new beginning. This prolific cycle is the gist of MY Q’s creative achievement and the essence of his art.
In his upcoming exhibition “Make a Move” at Baik Art Seoul, MY Q presents his meta-emotions, which allows re-encountering and experiencing the emotions that were forgotten or buried inside. The viewers are invited to experience the moments to reflect on their own meta-emotions through his works. “Make a Move” offers an opportunity to look into the artist’s meta-emotions hidden behind his freeing and diverse colors and forms. It will also provide viewers with a chance to engage in deep conversations with their forgotten emotions. My Q wishes the viewers to discover a freer version of themselves as they leave the exhibition
