Maxine Sakai is a recent graduate from Loyola Marymount University. Studying fine art and animation, she has a keen interest in exploring intersections between the real and imagined and the ways that art can operate as a space for creators and viewers to investigate these conceptions together. Finding the most comfort in illustration mediums such as graphite and ink, Maxine finds inspiration in artists ranging from J.C. Leyendecker to Yuko Shimizu. Ultimately, she believes art to be a transformative practice that requires critical engagement with the artist themselves, the world around them, and those who consume the art.
